Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FERPA affords students certain rights with respect to their education records. Students who have reached the age of 18 or have entered into a postsecondary learning institution have the right to:

• inspect and review their education records within 45 days of the day the institution receives a request for access;
• have some control over the disclosure of information from their education records;
• seek to amend education records that the student believes is inaccurate, misleading or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights under FERPA;
• file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the institution to comply with requirements of FERPA.

IFSA-Butler adheres to these fundamental rights of students who participate on IFSA-Butler programs. For further information regarding how FERPA applies to your study abroad experience, please contact Rhonda Hinkle.
