Revolutions in Biomedicine is a four-week undergraduate program held at Imperial's South Kensington and Hammersmith Hospital campuses. Instructors from Imperial College's Faculty of Medicine will lead students through eight topical modules plus an eight-day lab project contributing to the development of effective viral vaccines. In addition, four keynote lectures and a "Beyond Bioscience: Life & Career Perspectives" panel discussion will be held.
This program has a set curriculum of modules, lectures and projects. Participants do not choose from a selection of courses. Topics will be drawn from areas such as regenerative medicine, gene therapy and gene editing, novel cancer therapeutics, big data, genomic medicine, microbial resistance to antibiotics, diabetes and obesity and global health. These topics will be explored through lectures, group work, field trips and debriefing. Students will complete an eight-day laboratory-based mini-research project investigating the relative importance of the proliferation and production of cytokenes in CD8+T Lymphocytes (CTL) activation.
Please review all your syllabi and course materials when you are registering for classes (both pre-arrival and on-site). Certain classes may have a one-off lab or field trip fee that is disclosed in the syllabus or first meeting of class. You will be responsible for these fees, whether they are billed and paid by IFSA-Butler or billed to you.
Students must have completed at least one bioscience course with a lab component before arrival in London.
After you return to the U.S., IFSA will send an official Butler University transcript to your home university with your coursework converted to the U.S. credit system. You will also have access to an unofficial transcript in your IFSA Student Portal. The transcript reflects courses taken, credits attempted, and grades earned during your term abroad. This service is included in your study abroad program at no additional cost.
