About Remote International Internships

Acquaint yourself with the professional culture of another country while establishing an international network of colleagues, wherever you are, with an IFSA Remote International Internship. Whether placed in a family-owned business, non-profit organization, start-up incubator, or community group, this credit-bearing, project-based internship will enhance your ability to navigate a global, multicultural business world. We will work one-on-one with you to find the best-fit placement based on your personal background, skills, and goals—with opportunities in 12 countries and a wide range of industries, we are sure to identify something meaningful for you.
The IFSA Remote International Internship is an ideal opportunity to fulfill your institution’s international education requirement in a time when international travel may not possible. Or if you have already completed a study abroad program but were unable to participate in an on-site internship, our remote internship program gives you an additional opportunity to strengthen your understanding and skills with your original host culture, or perhaps with another country and culture altogether.
Academics at Remote International Internships
IFSA offers a wide array of semester-long, competitive, remote internship placements in a variety of industries and worldwide locations. Students will complete at least 120 hours in their placement throughout the term, and participate in the online International Internship Seminar every week (3 U.S. semester credit hours). Internships are jointly supervised by your internship site supervisor and the Remote International Internship Seminar instructor, and coordinated by the host country’s resident director.
INTERNSHIP LOCATIONS
Your placement’s office will be located in a country such as Argentina, Australia, China, Czech Republic, England*, India, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Scotland*, Spain, or Sri Lanka. (*Coming Spring 2022)

IFSA is committed to finding an opportunity for every student that will provide a meaningful and credible internship work experience. However, we cannot guarantee placements in any particular industry, company, or location. Final placements are highly dependent on the prior experiences and skills you may have to offer, availability of companies (and the local environment for these positions), and interests.
PLACEMENT PROCESS

Once you submit your application, resume, and Internship Intent Form, our experienced advisors will connect with you individually to identify your professional strengths, review your goals, and refine your internship interests. We will also provide internship preparation resources to further set you up for success, such as:

Our team will match you with meaningful and credible internship opportunities tailored to your interests, strengths, and background. You will interview with your internship match before the program starts. Keep in mind, final placements are highly dependent on the prior experiences and skills you may have to offer, availability of companies (and the local environment for these positions), and interests.
Once your placement is finalized and the program begins, your Remote International Internship Seminar instructor and internship site supervisor will be your main points of contact throughout the term.
LANGUAGE
A majority of internships will be with English-speaking organizations. However, specific placements may require you to be fluent in Italian (Italy), Spanish (Latin America and Spain), or Chinese (China). Students interested in non-English speaking internships should have completed at least four semesters of the required language, or the equivalent, or have demonstrated proficiency in the required language.
The following list showcases the variety of recent Remote International Internship opportunities. While some of these internship opportunities may be available for upcoming terms, internship placements do vary from term to term. We will work with you individually to identify a placement that meets your unique personal, academic, and professional goals.
AGRICULTURE & NATURAL RESOURCES
Peru Organization: This non-profit organization works to protect the Peruvian Amazon through long-term research, reforestation, and education projects that seek to understand the core issues behind the loss of the Amazon and their solutions.
Potential Projects: You might contribute in areas such as marketing research and analysis, marketing materials development, grant search and writing, and fundraising strategy.
Italy Organization: This historic Italian association focuses on the protection of the environment and landscape. The local chapter organizes initiatives to raise awareness on environmental issues and urban sustainability, including exhibits, “Clean the World” days, and park maintenance.
Potential Projects: You might help create and edit short videos and other materials about the association’s activities, with a special focus on urban gardens and beekeeping.
Italy Organization: This family-run, award-winning organic winery on the outskirts of Rome specializes in organic wine production and revitalizes native grape varieties.
Potential Projects: You might work with the owners to optimize the winery website and social media presence, and to launch a new e-commerce option.
ARTS & CULTURE
Argentina Organization: This NGO works to defend women’s rights and gender equality through art.
Subject Areas: Arts Administration/Management, Human Rights, Social Justice, Women and Gender Studies
Potential Projects: An intern would be involved in the improvement and systematization of the organization’s archive and documents, the creation of dissemination material, the production of artistic and cultural events, and the co-management of financial support.
Argentina Organization: This organization encourages language practice with people from all over the world, with a focus on the cultural exchange and the values of Argentine cultures. It aims to enrich vocabulary and communication through play and conversation.

Potential Projects: You will participate in various projects such as the coordination of conversation club events, the management of social networks, the creation of content for radio, podcast, Twitch, and TikTok, the writing of articles on interculturality, and the search for national and international funding sources.
Czech Republic Organization: This coaching institution shows artists how to step into their power so they can create art they’ll love and create the kind of world in which they want to live.

Spain Organization: A global manufacturer and provider of hybrid packaging solutions for beauty brands

Potential Projects: You can work in areas of the organization including human resources, marketing, international business relations, and global manufacturing.
Spain Organization: Provider of subscription-based meal kits in Barcelona

Czech Republic Organization: This school, one of the largest language services in Prague and the Czech Republic, serves more than 140 corporate clients providing in-company language training programs and independent language testing. In addition, it provides foreign language courses for the public, including private lessons and semester-long classes for groups.
Subject Areas: Communications, Information Technology, Marketing, Teaching English as a Second Language
Potential Projects: You may review marketing strategies and a campaign for a teacher-training program; produce, edit, and review content for international target audiences in various media; assist with reestablishing alumni engagement; help create a pilot English as a Foreign Language teaching program; or develop strategy for implementing a new remote learning program.
China Organization: This is a large venture capital startup incubator with a focus on tech companies. Start-ups apply to the incubator, which matches them with resources to help them grow their business through a successful venture capital funding.

Potential Projects: Depending on qualifications and skills, the intern may work directly for the incubator company itself on projects related to venture capital financial analysis or marketing. Alternately, an intern could be placed with a larger startup to work on projects related to project management.
China Organization: This incubator provides innovation and community services to innovators and professionals who aim to accelerate their personal growth and build networks around start-ups, scale-ups, and corporates.

Spain Organization: Coworking, mentoring and networking team

Potential Projects: From design to international business to sports events planning, you can work on different projects within the coworking community of entrepreneurs and start-ups.
EDUCATION
Spain Organization: Education and mentoring organization
Subject Areas: Education Studies, Marketing
Potential Projects: You can work on marketing and social media for education campaigns, or mentor students to match them with potential future employment.
Mexico Organization: This K-12 school has an ambitious English curriculum but struggles to maintain a high level of English language education. Serving a low-income community, challenges include a lack of teacher training and few native English-speaking tutors.
Subject Areas: Early Childhood Education, Education Studies, Elementary Education, Teaching English as a Second Language
Potential Projects: You can tutor and lead remote English language classes, work with the English coordinator on revising and redeveloping the school’s English curriculum and extra-curricular activities, or work with the school’s English teachers on phonetics, grammar, and general support to better serve their student body.
Italy Organization: This school of Italian language has a special focus on assisting U.S. study abroad programs, while offering a variety of courses in Italian studies, guided tours, advanced training for teachers, and online didactics.

Potential Projects: You would work on renewing the school’s website and social media communication to better appeal to American students. Additionally, the school can assist Education majors in the preparation of lesson models and teaching materials.
Australia Organization: Parents and staff work in partnership at this dynamic public school to enhance educational achievements and opportunities for all students across all stages of learning.

Potential Projects: Projects you may work on include creating videos and social media to promote school values, other online and social media content, data analysis and reporting on trends.
India Organization: This “inclusive” preschool through 10th grade school accepts students from all socio-economic backgrounds, including those with physical and mental disabilities. One of the school’s extension is a center for children with severe disabilities, while another extension teaches secondary school students arts and crafts as a vocation.

Potential Projects: With teaching plans prepared for the coming academic year, you would work to develop teaching materials and tools to assist the preschool and first grade to fourth grade teachers.
India Organization: This K-10 school serves more than 800 children from underprivileged families residing in the old central parts of Pune. Many of the students are the first-generation learners in their family.

Potential Projects: You would assist in developing personality development workshops for fifth grade to ninth grade students. Other projects available based upon your skill set.

HEALTH SERVICES
Mexico Organization: This public hospital specializes in health care for the entire south east of Mexico. You will work with a medical doctor on two projects related to post-COVID-19 social impact and educating the general public on health practices.
Subject Areas: Medical Anthropology, Public/Global Health,
Potential Projects: You can study post COVID-19 behaviors including the inequities of society; incidents of gender violence as a result; intrafamily violence; racism and discrimination; hunger; increase in crime levels. Or, you may assist in teaching the general population what it means to go to the doctor, working on myths and stereotypes, and developing strategies to provide a health education to the larger community.
India Organization: The mission of this NGO hospital research center is to conduct research in areas which affect the life of common people, with an emphasis on women and children. Areas of research include reproductive and child health, adolescent health, HIV and AIDS, quality of health services, women’s development, and various clinical topics. In addition to its ICU facilities, it has medical, surgical, and pediatric departments.

Potential Projects: You may work on projects related to literature review, data analysis, and preparing awareness materials for COVID-19, reproductive health, mental health, child sexual abuse, and HIV.
India Organization: This independent charitable organization works to better the lives of low-income communities in Pune through a range of family welfare programs such as education, healthcare, child development, and women’s empowerment.
Subject Areas: Public Health
Potential Projects: On the background of COVID-19, the organization would have you prepare awareness material for their target population. They also work with women, adolescents, and HIV+ people regarding their health and nutrition. Depending on student interest, the work may be designed for a team of students.
China Organization: This digital health solution provider aims to build the largest digital healthcare ecosystem of its kind in the region.

GOVERNMENT & LAW
Argentina Organization: This international NGO promotes citizen participation, transparency, and access to public information to strengthen democratic institutions through collective action. It is also engaged in research and actions in areas such as elections, justice, legislative work, and corruption.

Czech Republic Organization: This non-profit, human rights organization works to protect the rights of foreigners in the Czech Republic.

Czech Republic Organization: The mission of this U.S. not-for-profit institute, based in Prague, is to advance the rule of law in the world. After you complete the program, IFSA will send an official Butler University transcript to your home university with your coursework converted to the U.S. credit system. You will also have access to an unofficial transcript in your IFSA Student Portal. The transcript reflects courses taken, credits attempted, and grades earned during your program. This service is included in your IFSA program at no additional cost.
