Brian Harley, Ph.D.

Biography

Brian D. Harley is Associate Dean of International Programs and Director of Programs for Study Abroad at Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana). In this position as director, Harley is responsible for administering Purdue University’s more than 200 study abroad programs in 50 countries. These include direct university exchanges, faculty-led programs directly administered by the Study Abroad office, and several partnership programs. Partner programs include those under the auspices of the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) and university contractual arrangements with international education organizations.

Harley came to Purdue in May 2002 from BCA Abroad, then of North Manchester, Indiana, where he was Chief Academic Officer and Director of the Program Division, serving BCA since 1995. During this time he was also Interim Resident Director (and CUSAT Visiting Professor) of the former BCA program at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), in Kerala, India. He has led student study abroad programs and faculty familiarization visits to India and elsewhere

A native of Indiana, Brian holds a B.S. degree in biology-chemistry from Manchester University (née College) and both an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from The Pennsylvania State University.

Brian Harley resides in the Lafayette area with his wife Deanna Brown.
