Katie Mitchell
Education
Katie holds a doctorate from Queen’s University Belfast in politics, looking at women’s NGOs in post-conflict spaces. Prior to this she completed her Master of Arts in Violence, Terrorism and Security from Queen’s University Belfast, and her Bachelor of Arts in a joint Anthropology-Sociology degree with a double-major in International Relations from Mills College in California. She’s passionate about how post-conflict spaces are challenged and shaped by international influences, especially in relation to gender politics and cultural norms.
Travel Experience
During the 2011-2012 academic year, Katie studied abroad with IFSA in Northern Ireland and fell in love with Belfast, so much that she returned in 2014 and never looked back. She has also briefly worked as an English teacher in China and has traveled extensively. She knows what it’s like to be lost in a new city and what it’s like to feel at home in two countries.
