  3. 4 Reasons Why Studying Abroad is Ideal for Any Student

August 30, 2021

When you make the final decision to study abroad, you are setting yourself up for a semester of experiences outside of your comfort zone to see what the world has to offer. Whether you choose to study in England, Argentina, or any other location that IFSA offers, and whether it’s short-term or long-term, you will feel the positive impact it has on your academic studies and personal goals. The end is very rewarding and once-in-a-lifetime, but why should you take the leap to study abroad?

1. Experiencing a new culture and community

One of the main contributors to a successful study abroad journey is appreciation you will have towards your “home away from home.” Even in an English-speaking country like England, there are cultural differences that you will be able to identify. Through the adventures you’ll take throughout the country such as trying new foods, visiting an art gallery, and connecting with the community, you will be able to experience the culture and community from a local view.

2. Connecting with local students and your study abroad cohort

Study abroad in Melbourne with IFSA

The world is a huge place and studying abroad gives you the chance to meet people from all parts of the world. As a student at a partner institution, you will be able to join organizations and university events to meet local students. As a student in an IFSA program, you will be able to partake in excursions and activities with other students studying abroad, allowing you to meet people from all over the United States. This is a great opportunity to make connections, and even connect with other students from U.S. schools in the same position as you.

3. The international perspectives in academic studies

As a student, you will be able to take courses directly with another institution allowing you to gain academic credits. Every country has a different approach to education, and this will give you the chance to take courses that your home institution may not offer. When you are in class with students from around the world, it will allow inclusive excellence to thrive in the classroom as you gain new perspectives from your peers and professors.

4. It’s more affordable than you think

Studying abroad may seem expensive, with flights, program costs, and other travel expenses, but with IFSA’s scholarships and grants, we aim to financially support students to make their study abroad goals a reality. In fact, one in every three IFSA applicants benefit from the $1M in scholarships that we award each year. For example, if you attend a state college of university or attend a minority serving institution, a $2,000 grant will automatically apply to our standard program fees.  See our complete list of scholarships here. Plus, for the Spring 2022 Semester, IFSA is giving away $750 travel grants. Apply now
