Revelle in Santiago
Program Overview
In Santiago, you will discover a city of incredible contrasts. You will encounter a city with a rich and diverse history that gave birth to one of the most important literary traditions in Latin America. You will also find the modern capital of one of the wealthiest and most progressive countries in Latin America featuring immersive museums, world-class restaurants, and a thriving live music scene.
Santiago is also the gateway to Chile, one of the most ecologically diverse and dramatic landscapes in the world. From your base in Santiago, you could surf in the Pacific Ocean one day, ski in the Andes Mountains the next, and then head down to Southern Chile for a weekend of hiking, rock climbing, and white-water rafting. You could even brave Patagonia and explore one of the natural wonders of the world.
This global seminar program is offered in partnership with the University of California San Diego. Enrollment is limited to 28 students.

Academics
The curriculum includes the following two classes:
Renaissance, Reformation, and Early Modern Europe
This class focuses on the encounter between Europe and the Americas along with the intellectual developments of the Early Modern World.
Latin American Literature in Translation
This class explores the unique and vibrant literary traditions of Latin America with a special emphasis on Chile.
Instructor
Dr. Bretton Rodriguez is an Associate Director of the Humanities Program at Revelle College. He earned a doctorate in literature from the University of Notre Dame, and he has taught at the University of Nevada, Reno; Boğaziçi University in Istanbul; Indiana University, South Bend; and the University of Notre Dame. His passion for travel and global learning propelled him to teach English as a second language in Chile and Mexico, and to lead eight summer language immersion and service programs in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Argentina, and Spain. In Chile, Bretton taught English in Santiago for nearly a year, and he is excited to introduce students to the vibrant culture and rich history of the city.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years of age. Students under 18 may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
- You must be currently attending or recently graduated from a U.S. or Canadian community college, technical college, two-year college, four-year college, or four-year university.
- You must have completed at least one (1) full-time year of study at your home institution before the beginning of the term.
Recommendation Letter
Not required.

Housing & Meals
Students will be housed in furnished student apartments. Apartments will have shared rooms with a private bathroom and access to a shared kitchen and communal areas. Internet access is included. There is no meal plan. You will purchase your meals or cook for yourself. However, a welcome dinner and farewell dinner are provided.
Transportation
Students will receive a local transportation pass for Santiago for the duration of the program.
