“My educator instincts often take the lead in my role as director. Drawing on my art history background, I strive to heighten my study abroad students’ visual literacy, equipping them to engage with their new surroundings in Italy and interpret physical or aesthetic cues signaling social and political messages, for example. The aim is to have them return home having added a sharp, new arrow to their quiver of critical thinking skills, which are sure to serve them well in any future endeavor.”
Education
Kevin obtained his bachelor’s degree in German literature at the University of Delaware, culminating in an honor’s thesis on twentieth-century German scholarship on Bramante’s and Giuliano da Sangallo’s designs for the New Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome. He later pursued his master’s degree in the fields of Northern and Italian Renaissance and Baroque art and architecture at the University of Pennsylvania.
Travel Experience
A product of study abroad, Kevin was awarded a stipend to study for one year in Bavaria, Germany; and finished his undergraduate career in Siena, Italy. Subsequently, he received a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship in Salzburg, Austria. He has since lived and worked in 5 different countries.
Did You Know?
While teaching undergraduates at the Vatican, Kevin once logged 29,754 steps by climbing up and down the stairs of Saint Peter’s celebrated dome in a single semester.
