Susan Lochner Atkinson
Biography
Susan Lochner Atkinson is currently the Distinguished Associate Director for Advising in International Academic Programs at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She oversees student services, diversity and inclusion, individual health/safety issues, and curriculum integration.
Previously Lochner Atkinson served a study abroad coordinator at University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and a study abroad assistant at the University of Minnesota. Lochner Atkinson is a frequent presenter for regional and national sessions and workshops pertaining to various education abroad topics. She has presented multiple times on advising skills, presenting to adult learners, and health, safety, and risk management in study abroad, as well as various diversity topics.
Lochner Atkinson has served as the NAFSA Education Abroad Knowledge Community Chair, NAFSA Trainer Corps Chair, is a NAFSA Trainer Corps member, and has been on various committees for Diversity Abroad.
She studied abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico and Valladolid, Spain and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire and a Master of Arts in Comparative International Development Education from the University of Minnesota.
