Shanti Freitas is the Interim Director of Study Away at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In this role, she leads efforts in data collection, evaluation, and assessment to ensure that Macalester’s study away services and programs are meeting their mission and identified student learning outcomes. She also advises on a subset of Macalester Approved Study Away programs, including Macalester faculty-led programs and many IFSA programs in Latin America.
Shanti came to Macalester College in 2018, and before that, she worked at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, coordinating all of their short-term, faculty-led domestic and international programs. Shanti has also lived and worked in Ecuador for three years, and has led short-term education abroad programs for high school and college students to Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Chile.
Shanti was born in Chicago and grew up in Evanston, Illinois. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, and an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in International Education Policy.
