Mall Shooting in Germany

July 22, 2016
German authorities are reporting that several people are dead following a shooting in a Munich shopping mall. IFSA-Butler does not have programs in Germany, but we are reaching out to our United Kingdom and Ireland summer students to determine if any of them traveled to Germany on their own. We anticipate that it may take several hours to make contact with the majority of students to confirm their safety.

We will continue to monitor this situation and provide any relevant updates. Please contact Renee Lopez, Assistant Director of Health, Safety and Security with any questions or concerns.

Bomb at Shanghai Airport

June 14, 2016

On June 12, an individual detonated a homemade explosive device at a baggage counter at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport before pulling out a knife and attempting to commit suicide. Four bystanders were injured and the event caused delays to a small number of flights. Early indications suggest that the incident is related to individual mental health issues, and there does not appear to be a broader political or terrorism motives.

The Alliance for Global Education summer program in Shanghai begins on June 15. Our resident director in Shanghai has confirmed that two spring students awaiting the start of the summer program have been located and are accounted for as of this morning.
