Pei Liu, Ph.D.
“Working with colleagues to maximize students’ learning experience abroad is very rewarding. I really enjoy watching every semester’s worth of students become increasingly confident about independently navigating their new environment, overcoming challenges, and successfully creating opportunities for themselves during their time in China.”
Education
Pei received her doctorate from George Washington University, where she also worked in the Center for the Study of Globalization and taught and advised students. As part of her dissertation, in 2004 she conducted field research in China on the development of Sino-foreign collaborative educational alliances. A native of China, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Trade Economics from Wuhan University of Technology and Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her academic interests focus on new developments in transnational education, joint educational ventures, and international quality assurance and regulation.
Travel Experience
Pei has wanted to visit countries that have a long tradition but with distinctive culture and lifestyle different from her home. She is particularly impressed by the European Union countries, their histories, their vast and varying geography and demographics, ongoing changes and complexities triggered by interactions of global and local forces, as well as the efforts by individual countries like Spain to reinvigorate itself in the new world economy. It offers her critical angles of examining and reflecting our own journey of societal and cultural evolution, and the key values China programs can bring to our students.
