Jem Meegan
“I’ve long held a fascination for learning from and about a range of diverse cultures and meeting new people, coupled with a passionate dedication to higher education. Being granted the opportunity to both support and learn from IFSA students, while also rediscovering my homeland through their fresh perspectives, is such a privilege and a dream come true!”
Education
Jem holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Religious Studies and a master’s degree in peace and conflict studies from the University of Otago. Jem is currently working on a certificate in te reo Māori.
Travel Experience
Jem traveled with family to the United States, the United Kingdom, and Thailand when she was 11 years old. This experience reinforced the passion for other cultures and traveling abroad. For her 21st birthday, Jem spend more than a week in Samoa with her mum. Jem has also traveled multiple times to ne Australia and has been lucky enough to swim at the Great Barrier Reef! More travel in the next couple of years is the goal, with Kenya, Greece, and more of the United States taking the top spots in dream travel destinations.
Did You Know?
Due to many landlords not allowing dogs in New Zealand houses, Jem has adapted and instead has two (domesticated) rats, named Playboy and Goose.
