I come from a family of teachers and world travelers. From as far back as I can remember, I understood the transformative power of intercultural engagement and international study. With IFSA, my aim is to share my experiences with students, and to empower them on their own unique journeys.

Education

Jonathan holds a doctorate in English from Trinity College Dublin, where he also earned his Bachelor of Arts with first class honors. He was a DAAD (German Academic Exchange) Scholar in Freie Universität Berlin and a Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellow at University College Dublin, where he teaches on the creative writing faculty.

Travel Experience

As a kid, Jonathan had extraordinary opportunities to travel the world, particularly in Europe and the Middle East. These experiences showed him that the world is a big place, but also that it’s available to us if we’re willing to set out and explore. Those early experiences transformed his life and inspired him later to move half-way across the world and build a new, creative life in Ireland.

Did You Know?

Before making the move to Ireland, Jonathan studied music under jazz legend Charlie Haden at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Jazz music (and NBA basketball) are two particularly American interests he keeps with him, no matter where he travels.
